The rooftop at Soko Restaurant is not only a landscaped sanctuary providing expansive city views but is also reflective in form and scale of the quintessential Queensland outdoor living area. A Brush Box (Lophostemon confertus) forest emerges from the building and reaches into the sky – creating a green marker from considerable distances. From concept, it was imagined as a habitat in the sky – a place for biodiversity to reestablish and to nurture and sustain Brisbane’s unique flora and fauna.
Clinging to the exposed skeletal frame of the building, Kangaroo Vine (Cissus antartica) spreads out to create yet another layer of a cooling, green landscape. Chosen for its considerable growth and reach, the vines will continue growing to create a mosaiced green web that will provide additional shade, habitat and greenery.
