Located in the heart of Dalby, Mary’s Place is grounded in the idea of a regenerative meeting place. It acknowledges the shared regional, local and site-specific histories as places of gathering, creating a culturally, socially and locally sensitive urban park for the town.
The design weaves together the site’s history as a place of gathering, the incredible surrounding Indigenous landscape, the continuing agricultural identity of the region, and the importance of sustainable design to create a special and enduring urban forest.
Responding to changing climate conditions and regional heat stressors was important, and an immediate focus was on the provision of established trees with the intent to nurture a connected native canopy.
The adoption of a site-specific landscape vision means the park is destined to flourish with minimal water and maintenance requirements, and on opening day was already home to native fauna.
