This project offers an exciting opportunity to transform a landmark, riverside Toowong site into something that highlights and responds to our unique climate and city.
The design develops a sub-tropical sanctuary with a strong landscape that nurtures human interaction, connecting a series of spaces where residents and visitors can relax, play and entertain. This immersive, sculptural landscape blurs the transition between inside and outside creating a series of cool and intimate courtyards and atria.
Planting at ground level, in internal atria, on the facade and the roof terrace, will provide shade, reduce the urban heat- island effect and cool the local area. A bespoke and contemporary mix of Queensland natives alongside shade loving
exotic species ensures the planting is lush, soothing, and cools year-round. The vegetation will work harmoniously in the low carbon landscape, improving the air quality and attracting pollinating wildlife to the gardens.
