The new Gabba Central Park takes inspiration from urban parks around the world. High quality urban spaces are integral to the wellbeing of residents and the functioning of cities.
Daylighting previously disturbed creeks brings to the surface the water for which Woolloongabba is named, a series of waterholes and a creek line run through the park, surrounded by blossoming meadows of wattles and wildflowers.
The uper banks of the park are rewilded, with regeneration of native forests bringing back to life our iconic Australian eucalypt forests.
The streets are green, shaded and protective – creating a vibrant edge to the park and the new Gabba heart.
The school is expanded and a shared sports complex is nestled into it’s elbow – a space that both students and the community can use and enjoy.
The new Gabba Central Park is a space brimming with life, movement and activity. It showcases the local landscapes which are so unique to our climate and context, and provides much needed open space for the residents of Woolloongabba.
