With a combination of historical creek lines and the Maiwar bordering the site of Brisbane Place, it is evident that water played an important role in the natural landscape that once occupied the land and is still visible in the surrounding landscape ecologies today.
The creation of a ‘Creekbed’ on the ground plane, a ‘Waterhole’ on level 6, and a ‘Cloud Forest’ on the rooftop supports the narrative of water as a key design feature. Providing a connection to water physically and visually links the site to its history as one bound by creeks and rivers. A local ecosystem flourishes, climbs and cascades all around the building, shrouding it in a landscape that is alive and moving with fauna, history and water.
Respecting the existing precinct and Cathedral, the landscape provides a gentle transition between the new tower and historical site. Preservation of the Cathedral landscape is a priority in regards to spaces for reflection, designs of symmetry, and a connection to the site.
