Benefitted by a progressive client with a keen interest and commitment to sustainability, the landscape becomes a functional part of the site.
Working collaboratively with the architects, a new public plaza at ground level extends from St Pauls Terrace into the site and provides a new pedestrian connection to the redeveloped hotel and garden beyond. Specialised heritage consultants worked with the broader team to ensure the State Heritage Landmark was not only protected but rejuvenated throughout the process.
The plant palette is dominated by native calm and cool species which create breathable semi-indoor spaces and drive a sub-tropical, authentic character of the proposed landscape.
The canopy comprises sculptural species such as the Fiddle Leaf Fig, while structures and trellises are softened by climbers such as the Native Monstera. A reference to the process of brewing craft beer is given by the Common Hops to the exterior of the building.
